What is The Face Chi?

The Face Chi is a natural and holistic Face Yoga practice that combines face exercises, face massage, and posture exercises with breathwork, supercharging its benefits on your face and skin.

Based on the concepts of Strength, Relaxation, Posture and Flow, it is a fusion of ‘east meets west’ combining eastern traditional techniques with modern scientifically proven research.

Why Face Yoga?

We have a combination of over 50 overused and underused muscles on our face, head, and neck area. Stress and negative emotions stored in facial muscles and incorrect posture can distort your natural beauty.

We base our face workouts on the concepts of Strength, Relaxation, Posture and Flow.

Strength: Face exercises to strengthen and tone your facial muscles

Relaxation: Face massage and breathwork to relax and release tension from the overworked face muscles

Posture: Posture exercises to create a strong foundation for the face & improve facial contours & symmetry

Flow: Boost circulation and lymphatic flow with our face workouts to get that natural GLOW

As a result of this unique combination of techniques, the skin attached to these muscles is tightened and lifted reducing lines and wrinkles and emits a radiant glow.

Just as you exercise your body, Face Yoga helps to Lift, Tone, and Sculpt your face.

How soon can you see improvements?

Face Yoga is a workout for your face. Results can depend on factors like the condition of your face muscles, skin, lifestyle habits, and consistency in your practice.

Some see results in 3-4 weeks, whereas others can take up to 6 months. The good news is, as the muscles on the face are smaller than that of the body, results are quicker.

Immediately: Less tension in the face and neck area and your skin will emit a radiant glow.

3-4 weeks: A more permanent improvement in the face and neck is visible.

2-4 months: Reduced fine lines and a more lifted and youthful appearance

How you can enhance your face yoga results

Posture and Facial Expressions

Correct Body Posture,  Resting Face Stance and Sleeping Position are important aspects for a youthful face. Face Chi Face Yoga covers posture alignment which forms the foundation for facial symmetry, and mobility.

Become aware of your facial expressions. Unnecessary and frequent frowning, squinting and negative emotions significantly impact the face.

Hydration

Drink at least 1 glass of warm water after your face yoga practice. It is also important to drink about 2-3 liters of water a day. This helps to remove toxins and reduce puffiness and dark circles. Reduce your caffeine, alcohol, and sugar intake.

Stress Management

Stress can play havoc with your face and skin. Effective stress management techniques like controlled yogic breathing (covered in The Face Chi) can improve your results, as they reduce the impact of stress on your face and body.

Can you do Face Yoga if you have Botox/Fillers or Plastic Surgery ?

Yes, you can do Face Yoga even with plastic surgery, botox/fillers. We, however, strongly recommend you check with your doctor/aesthetician prior to starting Face Yoga.

Face Yoga is a great alternative to invasive treatments but can also be used to complement these treatments as it helps to tone and strengthen your face and neck muscles.

Can Face Yoga cause wrinkles?

When correctly practiced Face Yoga will not cause wrinkles if the proper technique, sequence, and facial form are implemented. This is covered in all Face Chi Face Yoga practices.

We recommend using a mirror initially, so you do not cause unnecessary lines on the face.

Face Yoga focuses on relaxing the tension in the overworked muscles in your face and awakening the underused or sleeping muscles. Thereby, all 57 muscles in the face and neck area are exercised and strengthened reducing tension lines/wrinkles. Your face, as a result, will look youthful and relaxed.

At what age can you start Face Yoga ?

It is never too early nor too late to start. Collagen, (a vital protein that keeps skin plump and elastic) starts to decline by 1% every year from your mid-20s. In addition, with age, face muscles start losing volume and become smaller. As a result, the skin connected to these muscles can start to sag causing an aged look.

Face Yoga helps in preventing, delaying, and reversing the effects of aging on the face and neck. It works on improving muscle tone and lifting and firming the skin. Face Yoga also helps in minimizing the impacts of stress on your skin.

Is there scientific proof that Face Yoga works ?

Yes, there have been several studies to show that Face Yoga works. A recent study by Northwestern University in the USA in January 2018 showed that participants who did 30 minutes of Face Yoga a day for 20 weeks showed a minimum of a 3 year age decrease in 20 weeks as assessed by skin and medical professionals.

The Palsy Association and the Stroke Association now recommend face exercise for rehabilitation purposes. This is to help regain strength, symmetry, and improve blood flow to the skin and muscles.

A study in Japan also proved facial exercises are effective in improving the mental health, facial expression, tongue muscle power of elderly people. Face exercises can be useful as a therapeutic modality in this population.

Born in India, the land of yoga and Ayurveda, I have always been passionate about holistic health and beauty; practicing yoga for over 17 years.

Face Yoga sent me on a transformative journey to rejuvenate and heal my face.
